Hello Dear Reader!
The ‘epic’ holiday cactus started to bloom on my birthday (November 1).
Love how the spent magenta flowers have an entirely new life on the compost pile.
Welcome to the colors of the season…
…a time for rest and recovery,
mixing and mingling with community,
and celebrating the nuanced colors, textures and shapes of all that nourishes us.1
And when the snow falls, if it does, the layers continue, of food, flowers and family.
It gets me every year, the security of sameness & the subtlety of change.
Even in the mess of it all (with different lighting conditions and camera quality), there is beauty.
Please share this post if you’d like to share the joy and thanksgiving embodied in compost.
News from the Studio:
If you live near Lebanon, New Hampshire, please join me for a holiday studio open house at AVA Gallery & Art Center this Saturday, December 2 from 11am - 4pm. I’ll have a few of these images available for sale as well!
Even if you can’t make it this Saturday, tell me which of these images you like the most. I’ll feature it on my website and send you an electronic copy. Just tell me why in the comment section below (please don’t replay to this e-mail - - I won’t be able to read what you say!).
As always, thank you for sharing your time and this space with me.
With cheers and gratitude for you being you!
Lyn
We cooked for 16 this year. Thank goodness for spatchcocking. We never could have fit two turkeys in the oven otherwise! Following my sister-in-law’s advise, we ordered two spatchcocked turkeys. By removing the backbone, the turkeys can lie splayed out in the pan. They cook faster and don’t take up so much room! We followed a New York Times recipe.
My favorite (although I like them all) is Thanksgiving beets and brussel sprouts!
Houseplants 2017 is my favorite!
