Irresistible.
Thank you for sharing your time and this space with us.
With gratitude for you being you,
Lyn (& Lilly)
Working on connections between images and sequencing. I love considering how seemingly unrelated images actually play together because of shape, tone, texture or overall design.
I’m all about visible mending…and celebrating the imperfection of it all. There’s no option for me - - if I tried to make straight lines and have consistent stitches I’d never even begin. Perfection is not consistent with my way of being…but getting the job done…letting the real deal be real…showing up again and again…that works for me.
These particular objects sat in a bag for years, some since 2020. While I could hide the bag in our old house, there is no hiding in our condo…The contents needed to be mended or discarded. Since I prefer to mend than throw something valuable away, I brought the bag with us to Maine over the weekend.
What could be better than a nor-easter, a cup of tea, and a pile of old clothes you’ve loved and forgotten about that are in need of attention?
When Lilly tore my favorite black wool scarf apart in the winter of 2021 (she was maybe 5 months old), I was ready to bid her farewell. Mad is an understatement. But we persevered and we both moved on.
I guess I needed four years to get over that moment and just fix the darn thing!
For me, sewing, like compost, is a metaphor for just about everything.
I love that you introduced me to visible mending - it’s so liberating!
