Creation - - It's Elemental
air, fire, water and earth in conversation
Happy New Year Dear Readers!
It’s been eight weeks since I last checked in. I’ve missed you and hope you are well and safe, wherever you are.
As you can see, I traveled to a land far far away, where sun rays through volcanic gasses…
looked like rays of light in a snow squall.
And where blue skies and the blue ocean made me think about how the sky in Vermont is bluest on the coldest days…

…even as I swam in and observed aquamarine waters, in action…
near the shore and farther out to sea.
All of Hawaii, it seems, is alive,
creating new earth from its core…
as I created new work from my own.

It’s elemental, how air, water, fire and earth dance and play, in constant conversation…always creating something.1

She is alive, waiting, watching and wondering.
What will the past and future say to each other at this moment?

Do I see and feel what is beneath my feet?
Will the tree’s canopy protect me, even as cold penetrates from below?
In the midst of it all, we seek life.
Even in the blur of it all, we persist. And like Lilly, we keep showing up. Because creation is elemental.
With gratitude for you being you,
Lyn
PS: Check out the 13 Tons of Love home page where there is now a heading called: Read by Theme: The 13 Tons of Love Archive. While away, I grouped particular posts within themes. Soon the posts will be linked so you can go seamlessly from one to the next. For now, though, let me know what you think. Do these themes resonate? I’ll share more about this process in the coming weeks.
For almost a year, I’ve been exploring the Elements in the context of the Kinship Photography Collective’s most recent Call for Engagement: Elementals. We began with Air in March 2025, shifted to Fire in June, Water in September and now Earth in December. We will wrap up this ongoing conversation in April, when we consolidate our experiences from the year.
It was an amazing gift to have this time with my family to ‘retreat’ from our regularly scheduled lives and to spend some time in a completely new place. Hawaii certainly embodies every element. More images from my time there will emerge - - It was a lot to process.
The photograph of compost is from Compost Kaua’i, a small compost collection and processing company based on the beautiful island of Kaua’i. They were gracious enough to invite me to spend an afternoon with them for their final processing of 2025…In the coming years I hope to continue meeting other entrepreneurial composters around New England and the US. If you’d like me to photograph your composting operations, send me a message!

At least 2 of the images seem to have captured outlines... I saw half of a woman's body and another the side of a face. Beautiful.
I really enjoyed these latest images, especially seeing the ones with the dress. Later this month my husband and I are going to Hawaii and you have given me the idea of taking one of my Mom's pieces of clothing along with me to photograph.
